CBD Oil for Psoriasis: What Does the Research Say?

👍 Share:

CBD has emerged as a natural treatment option for psoriasis, attracting attention for its anti-inflammatory and immune-regulating properties that can potentially alleviate symptoms. While it's not a cure, CBD can aid in managing psoriasis symptoms, and its increasing popularity has prompted many to consider it as part of their treatment plan.

By gaining a better understanding of how CBD and psoriasis respond together, individuals can make informed decisions about their healthcare and potentially find relief for their skin. This article delves into the potential benefits of using CBD for psoriasis and how it can work alongside conventional treatments to help manage this challenging condition.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects millions of people worldwide and can be a frustrating and painful condition to manage. The disease causes excessive skin cell production that leads to itchy and painful rashes that typically appear on the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back. However, for some individuals, this condition may also affect their joints, leading to a complication called psoriatic arthritis (PsA). PsA can cause joint pain, stiffness, and swelling.

The exact cause of psoriasis is not yet fully understood, however it's believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Despite not being contagious, psoriasis can take a toll on a person's physical, emotional, and social well-being, making it essential to find natural and effective treatments for both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

Although there is currently no known cure for psoriasis, there are numerous treatment options available, including topical salves, light therapy, and oral medications. Some of these traditional treatments may not work for everyone and can come with potentially harmful side effects. This is why natural remedies like CBD psoriasis products have gained popularity as a holistic alternative.

With further research, CBD and psoriasis methods may prove to be safe and effective naturopathic therapy, helping to manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and provide gentler options to supplement more traditional treatments.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural compound derived from the cannabis plant that's being recognized in medicine and health sciences for its therapeutic benefits. By carefully extracting the CBD compound from the plant and mixing it with a carrier oil, such as hemp seed oil or coconut oil, you end up with a finished product that is more easily absorbable by the body.

CBD oil has been found to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and immune-regulating properties, which may make it an effective treatment option for a variety of conditions, including inflammatory skin diseases like psoriasis [1].

While more research is needed to fully understand the effects of CBD psoriasis treatment, some studies suggest that CBD may be able to help alleviate symptoms such as itching, inflammation, and redness. Additionally, CBD may be useful in treating psoriasis symptoms by slowing down the overproduction of skin cells that causes psoriatic plaques, which can help reduce the severity and frequency of flare-ups.

It's important to understand that CBD should not replace traditional medical treatment for psoriasis. If you're contemplating CBD as a treatment option, it's essential to consult your doctor first. This will help ensure that CBD is a safe option for you and that you receive the most effective treatment plan for your psoriasis skin condition.

Understanding How CBD Oil for Psoriasis Works

The exact mechanism of how CBD and psoriasis work together is not yet fully understood. However, it's believed that CBD oil may help reduce inflammation and regulate the immune system, both of which play a role in the development of psoriasis.

For Psoriasis, CBD oil interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is involved in regulating various bodily functions such as pain, inflammation, and immune response. CBD binds to certain receptors within this system, such as CB1 and CB2 receptors, which may help reduce inflammation and modulate immune function. CBD also activates other receptors, such as TRPV1 receptors, which can help regulate pain perception.

Additionally, CBD psoriasis oil may also help regulate the production of skin cells by slowing down the overproduction of cells that leads to psoriatic plaques. While further research is needed, these potential mechanisms suggest that CBD oil may be an effective and natural treatment option for psoriasis [2].

While the research on CBD and psoriasis is still in its early stages, many individuals with psoriasis have reported positive results after using CBD oil or other cannabis derived products. However, it is important to note that CBD products should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment, and anyone with psoriasis should talk to their healthcare provider before trying any new treatment options.

When considering CBD psoriasis treatment, it's important to note that CBD is not a cure for psoriasis, but it can be used as a complementary therapy to support traditional medical treatments. It's also worth mentioning that CBD is generally well-tolerated, but some people may experience mild side effects such as dry mouth, fatigue, or changes in appetite.

In addition to using CBD and psoriasis products, it's also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and managing stress. These lifestyle factors can help reduce inflammation and improve overall skin health.

For successful psoriasis treatment, it's essential to discuss your medical condition and goals with your doctor and get their advice on whether a CBD psoriasis plan is right for you. Together you may find that there are several forms of CBD products available that are suitable in helping to alleviate your symptoms of psoriasis naturally. Each form of CBD psoriasis product has its unique benefits and ways to be used effectively.

1. CBD Oil

CBD Oil Tinctures for psoriatic arthritis pain are one the most revered options due to its fast-acting absorption capabilities.

To take CBD psoriasis oil, use the dropper to place the desired amount of oil under your tongue, hold it there for 30-60 seconds, and then swallow. This method is called sublingual administration and allows for quick absorption of CBD into the bloodstream.

2. CBD Massage Oil

CBD Massage Oil is a topical product that can be applied directly to the skin to help alleviate psoriasis symptoms. An application may help to dramatically improve skin hydration and reduce the symptoms of chronic itching and flaky skin. Additionally, CBD psoriasis massage oil has been shown to help reduce inflammation and redness, while improving overall skin health

To use CBD psoriasis massage oil, apply the product after a warm bath on the neck, back, legs, and arms. A smooth and silky texture glides easily across the skin, moisturizing the body from head to toe. You may repeat this process over the affected skin 2-3 times a day or as needed.

Use CBD-enriched topical products with non-irritating ingredients. Organic lavender extract and natural botanical oils may provide benefits to the skin, but it's recommended to perform a patch test before applying it to a larger area.

3. CBD Softgels

CBD Softgels are an effective option for managing psoriasis symptoms by delivering a premium CBD extract in a smooth, easy-to-swallow capsule for consistent administration. Every plant-based softgel contain a rich variety of cannabinoids and terpenes that work internally to provide powerful effects that may help to reduce inflammation and alleviate some of the symptoms associated with psoriasis, such as redness, scaling, and itching.

To use CBD psoriasis softgels, swallow the capsule with a full glass of water and preferably with a meal, as this can help with digestion and increase the effectiveness of the CBD and psoriasis product.

The Length of Time it Takes to Feel the Effects

You might be wondering how long it will take to feel the effects of CBD for psoriatic arthritis (PsA). The answer can vary depending on several CBD and psoriasis elements, including the method of consumption, the dosage, and individual body chemistry.

For instance, sublingual pure CBD oil (taken underneath the tongue) is absorbed through the mucous membrane under the tongue, and the effects can be felt within 15-45 minutes. This method allows CBD to enter the bloodstream quickly and bypass the digestive system, which can enhance the bioavailability and absorption of CBD.

CBD softgels and capsules are taken orally with glass of water. With this method, the CBD psoriasis capsule needs to be broken down by the digestive system, so the effects may take longer, typically up to 2 hours. However, CBD softgels and capsules can provide longer-lasting effects and a more consistent dose, similar to CBD gummies for arthritis

Topically applied CBD products, such as CBD Rub & CBD balm, are designed to be applied directly to the skin over affected joints. The effects of topical CBD may take longer to take effect, typically around 30 minutes to an hour. However, topical CBD psoriasis products may provide localized relief and reduce inflammation in the joints and surrounding tissues.

Keep in mind that everyone's response to CBD is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. It's essential to be patient and consistent in your CBD usage to achieve the best results. And as always, it's crucial to discuss any changes in your treatment plan with your healthcare provider to ensure your safety and well-being.

What is the Best CBD Oil for Psoriasis?

There are three main types of CBD psoriasis extracts to choose from: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolates. Each type has its unique properties and benefits, making it essential to understand them before choosing the right CBD psoriasis treatment.

Full spectrum CBD is perhaps the best extract type to select because it contains all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids found in the hemp plant. This type of CBD and psoriasis work well together because the extract contains a wide range of compounds that work together to provide maximum therapeutic benefits. Full spectrum CBD is also known for producing the entourage effect, which enhances the effects of each individual compound, for maximum pain relief and natural healing support.

Broad spectrum CBD is similar to full spectrum CBD in that it contains many of the same compounds. However, it undergoes additional processing to remove all traces of THC. This makes it an ideal choice for individuals who want to avoid THC but still want to benefit from the entourage effect.

On the other hand, CBD isolates are strictly CBD and do not contain any other cannabinoids, terpenes, or flavonoids. Research has shown that CBD isolates are not effective for psoriasis on their own due to their limited beneficial properties. Therefore, isolates are not the ideal choice for individuals who want to use CBD for psoriasis treatment.

How Much CBD to Use for Psoriasis?

The appropriate CBD psoriasis dosage can vary depending on factors such as the severity of your condition, your body weight, and your individual tolerance to CBD. It's highly recommended to begin with a low dose and gradually increase until you achieve the desired effect.

When using CBD oil for psoriasis, a typical starting dose is between 10mg-20mg per day. This can be gradually increased over time, depending on how your body responds. You may find it helpful to keep a journal to track your symptoms and the CBD dosage to help determine the optimal amount for your needs.

When using CBD topicals such as lotion or massage oils, it's recommended to follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding application and dosage. Start with a small amount and apply it to a small area of skin to test for any potential irritation or allergic reactions.

What Are the Potential Side Effects of CBD?

CBD is generally well-tolerated, but some people may experience mild and temporary side effects when implementing a CBD psoriasis treatment plan.

Oral CBD may cause side effects such as dry mouth, nausea, headaches, and changes in appetite. Additionally, high doses of oral CBD may cause drowsiness or sedation.

Topically applied CBD may also cause side effects such as skin irritation or allergic reactions. It's important to patch test a small area of skin before using a topical CBD psoriasis product. Some topical CBD and psoriasis products may also contain other ingredients that could cause irritation or allergic reactions, so it's important to read the ingredient list carefully before using.

Despite the potential side effects of CBD and psoriasis, many people find that it is a safe and well-tolerated treatment option when used in consultation with a healthcare provider. By understanding the potential benefits and risks of CBD, individuals with psoriasis can make an informed decision about whether or not to incorporate it into their treatment plan.

Takeaway: CBD for Psoriasis

CBD may provide several benefits for people developing psoriatic arthritis symptoms, including reducing pain and inflammation, improving sleep quality, and reducing anxiety and depression. However, long-term treatment effects of CBD for PsA are still unclear, and more research is needed to determine the optimal dosage, length of treatment, and potential side effects.

When considering CBD as a psoriasis treatment option, it's important to note that CBD is not a cure for psoriasis, but it can be used as a complementary therapy to support traditional medical treatments like topical steroids. With proper use and monitoring, CBD may provide a holistic approach to help manage the symptoms of psoriasis and improve overall quality of life.
